I ended Breast Cancer Awareness Month doing something I should have done in the beginning of the month I had a mammogram. It actually was due Oct. 1, but somehow I manage to be a few weeks late every year. It certainly not due to lack of reminders. Im busy and I work fulltime, I try to rationalize. But I finally admit to myself that the real reason goes a little deeper than that. I think there an element of fear not of the test, itself, but what it might reveal. And, I suspect Im not alone. We get this test, we hope, to find out we do nt have breast cancer. But the truth is, we actually know that it can tell us if we do have it.

Influencing that truth even more this year is that during the last two months, I've written three stories on courageous woman who have battled breast cancer. The stories of these amazing women reminded me that although we always want everything, sometimes it does nt. Many years ago, it happened to my own mother. A mammogram revealed a cluster of suspicious microcalcifications. A biopsy confirmed it was breast cancer. I can remember as vividly is if were yesterday the fear on my mother face and the fear of losing her inside my heart. But, my mom was lucky. Louis Vuitton Mahina. Actually, the test is relatively quick and easy much easier than the colonscopies I undergo every few years to screen for colon cancer, and much easier and quicker than getting a filling at the dentist.
